The 15-Minute Digital Presence Checklist for Busy Pastors
Stay visible online without sacrificing ministry time.
You don't have time for digital marketing. I get it.
You're preparing sermons, counseling families, visiting hospitals, leading volunteers, and somehow supposed to "build an online presence" too?
Here's the truth: you don't need hours. You need 15 focused minutes a week.
This checklist is designed for pastors who have zero time but know they can't completely ignore the digital world. Do these things, in this order, and you'll stay visible without burning out.
The Weekly 15-Minute Routine
Monday Morning (5 minutes)
Check Google Business for new reviews
Reply to any new reviews with a simple "Thank you for visiting! We'd love to see you again."
Reply to any Facebook/Instagram messages
Don't let messages sit. Even a quick "Thanks for reaching out! We'll get back to you soon" is better than silence.
Post one thing about Sunday's service
A photo, a quote from the sermon, or just "Great to see everyone yesterday!" Something is better than nothing.
Wednesday (5 minutes)
Schedule a scripture graphic for Friday
Use Canva templates. Pick a verse. Add your logo. Schedule to post Friday morning.
Check website for anything outdated
Scroll the homepage. Is there an old event banner? Outdated hours? Fix it or delete it.
Saturday (5 minutes)
Post a Sunday reminder
"See you tomorrow at 10 AM!" with service times and address. Make it easy for someone to decide to come.
Update Google Business hours if needed
Holiday hours? Special service? Update Google so people don't show up to a closed building.
Why This Works
Consistency Over Volume
You don't need to post every day. You need to post every week, without fail. 3 posts a week, every week, beats 20 posts one week and then nothing for a month.
Response Time Matters
When someone messages your church, they're interested NOW. Wait a week to respond and they've moved on. Check messages on Monday — it takes 2 minutes and could be the difference between a visitor and a missed opportunity.
Google Business Is Your Secret Weapon
Most churches ignore Google Business. But it's where people actually find you. Spend 3 minutes a week on it and you'll outpace 90% of churches in your area.
Pro Tip: Set Phone Reminders
Set three recurring reminders: Monday 9 AM, Wednesday 9 AM, Saturday 9 AM. When your phone buzzes, do the checklist. 15 minutes total, spread across the week.
What To Skip
Busy pastors try to do everything and end up doing nothing. Here's what you can safely ignore:
- Twitter/X — Unless your congregation is actively there, skip it.
- TikTok — Takes too much time to do well. Not worth it for most churches.
- LinkedIn — Not where your visitors are looking.
- Blogging — Great if you have time, but not essential.
Focus on: Facebook, Instagram, Google Business, and your website. That's it.
When You're Ready for More
Once this 15-minute routine becomes automatic, you can add:
- Sermon clips from Sunday (huge engagement)
- Behind-the-scenes photos of ministry
- Member spotlights and testimonies
- Community event shares
But start with the basics. Master the checklist. Then expand.
